Find out more about this wonderful form of tattooing and how it can benefit so many people from the pioneering artists at Paradise Tattoo Studio.

areola-nipple tattooing, also known as nipple tattooing, medical tattooing or medical micro-pigmentation, is a wonderful form of restorative tattooing designed to help people feel more confident and comfortable in their skin.

Areola-nipple tattooing is most widely known for helping the breast cancer and BRCA community after mastectomy surgery, breast reconstruction and nipple reconstruction to recreate a 3D realistic areola-nipple complex.

Regardless of why an individual chooses to get areola-nipple tattoos, at Paradise we know and understand how important these tattoos are and that they play a vital role in a person’s emotional and physical healing journey, helping them to feel more like themselves again, and boosting body confidence and self-esteem.

How does Nipple Tattooing work?

At Paradise Tattoo Studio in Cheltenham, all our artists are personally trained by studio owner and world-renowned areola-nipple tattoo artist, Tanya Buxton. Using their extensive skill set, knowledge, and artistry in tattooing to create beautifully realistic, natural-looking areola-nipple tattoos.

After a detailed consultation, a design and colour palette is carefully chosen to compliment the body and skin tone, the tattooing process will begin.

Specialist equipment, tattoo devices and sterile needles are used to implant high quality tattoo pigments into the upper dermis layer of the skin. All our equipment and processes used at Paradise are of the highest quality and standard, and in line with all current health and safety regulations, ensuring everyone’s safety as our number one priority.

The procedure is carried out across two or more sessions in order to build the pigment gradually and naturally, without causing damage to the skin and delicate scar tissue. Once the tattoo is complete, your tattoo will be dressed in a sterile dressing and you will be given full aftercare advice.

Who else can benefit from areola-nipple tattooing?

  • Gender affirming surgeries, or top surgery: Top Surgery can be performed with or without nipple grafts and our Paradise artists are experienced with both types of surgery and supporting people in their transition journey as part of their gender-affirming care.
  • Cosmetic Surgery: Many cosmetic breast surgeries can affect the areola-nipple complex, after surgery, areola-nipple tattooing can be used to boost the colour and pigment of the areola, camouflage scarring, enhance the size and shape, and help to balance asymmetry.
  • Natural Enhancements: Options are available for people of all ages, genders and skin tones; whether you’re looking to increase the size of your areola, create a different shape, or boost the colour. This procedure is also perfect for reintroducing pigment to the areola-nipple complex that has been affected by some skin conditions, including vitiligo and hyperpigmentation.
  • Heart-shaped areola: At Paradise, we are in love with heart-shaped areola-nipple tattoos – they are a popular option with many people and offer a fun alternative and a form of self-expression for many.
