We absolutely love spending time out in the sun whenever Mother Nature decides to bless the United Kingdom with beautiful warm weather! Letโ€™s face it, itโ€™s not often that we get to bask in glorious sunshine here in Gloucestershire!

If youโ€™ve booked in to have a tattoo by one of our amazing artists here at Paradise Tattoo Studio in Cheltenham this summer, we have a few pointers to ensure that you and your skin are fully prepared for your next tattoo appointment. Preparing for a tattoo appointment in the summer requires some additional considerations due to potential heat and sun exposure, so hereโ€™s some tips to help you prepare.

Hydration

Drink plenty of water in the lead up to your appointment. Proper hydration helps keep your skin healthy and maintains the natural moisture balance of your skin, making the tattooing process much easier and more comfortable!

Protect your skin from the sun

Avoid direct sun exposure for up to two weeks prior to your appointment to make sure that your skin is in top condition. If your skin is burnt or peeling/flaky on the area you plan on getting your tattoo, you will not be able to have your tattoo until the area has healed and is back to normal.

Sunburn is essentially skin damage from overexposure to the sun, this massively affects the outer layers of your skin so itโ€™s essential that you take as many precautions as possible to prevent this. Slap on that sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and apply the sunscreen generously and rub into the area well.

Sunburn is super uncomfortable and the added redness that you see is blood flowing to the surface of the skin as the body tries to treat the damage. Tattooing over this inflamed skin would be incredibly painful and will be impossible to tattoo over.

Obviously youโ€™ll be spending as much time outside as possible, whilst avoiding direct sunlight we advise wearing loose, lightweight clothing that covers the area youโ€™re getting tattooed and take regular breaks in the cool shade as heat stroke and exhaustion can make you feel really unwell. Our artists’ diaries get booked up super fast, so please ensure you follow our advice to avoid disappointment!

Stay moisturised and exfoliated

Skin can become dry and dehydrated during the summer months where the weather is much warmer and you may be spending time at the beach and in water. If youโ€™re taking a dip in the sea or swimming pool, make sure youโ€™re washing off that salty sea water and sand in the shower, also rinse off any chlorine after your swim and follow-up with exfoliation and a good moisturiser to ensure your skin is well nourished.

Use a lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer to hydrate your skin. Apply the moisturizer after showering or bathing while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture and then apply your high SPF sunscreen before heading outside.

If you have any questions at all then feel free to get in touch with us here at Paradise Tattoo Studio. Our artists’ diaries get booked up super fast, so please ensure you follow our advice to avoid disappointment! We want to see as many of your beautiful Paradise tattoos as possible out in the wild so take care and we will see you for your tattoo this summer!
